Comprehensive protection of women exposed to multiple forms of violence from a gender perspective

01/01/2022 – 30/06/2023 (18 months)

Nablus, Tubas and Hebron, West Bank, Palestine

The aim of the project is to ensure the comprehensive protection of women survivors and/or exposed to the multiple forms of violence of the Israeli occupation and patriarchy, while strengthening their recovery and promoting their personal and collective development so that they can rebuild their lives and become agents of change within their respective communities. Hèlia is the applicant for the project.

The project is being implemented in Palestine and Catalonia. It provides quality comprehensive protection services (medical, rehabilitation, psychosocial, and legal services) in Palestine with a gender perspective and strengthens the collective resilience of the most vulnerable women through networks of mutual support and of community awareness on shared gender responsibility. In Catalonia, the project makes the situation of women and human rights in Palestine more visible to the general population, establishing spaces for collective learning to advance women’s rights. At the international level, the project will build the capacities of the cooperation organisations that work for the rights of the Palestinian people and that are being criminalised by the state of Israel for our work to resist the occupation and to denounce the campaign to discredit us.

The project’s target group includes 9,340 people (8,658 women and 682 men).

The project includes the following services:

  • Medical care (sexual and reproductive health) for women and girls and community-based rehabilitation services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy).
  • Psychosocial support for female survivors of sexist violence against women and women traumatically mourning violence related to the Israeli occupation.
  • Specialised legal advice to survivors of sexist violence against women.
  • Community awareness-raising (on gender and the criminalisation of Palestinian human rights activists) aimed at international audiences.
